If your dog has a problem with barking and you have had about enough of it, it is time that you tried using an anti bark collar. These collars have been around for years now but a lot of dog owners are just now finding out about them.

You should always try oral training first when reducing a dog’s barking, before you resort to other methods. The process is very similar to the one used for teaching your dog to sit, stay or fetch something, using oral commands that your dog has to respond to. Sometimes it can be more difficult than that and this is where an anti bark collar would come into play. Now it is just a matter of deciding which the best anti bark collar is for your dog to use.

Citronella Collar

The citronella spray collar is becoming very popular today. Many dog owners prefer this collar over other types of collars because it doesn’t hurt or present a risk to the dog. The fact that it doesn’t send electrical shocks every time the dog barks is one of the collar’s best selling points. It works by spraying the dog’s muzzle with a bit of citronella every time the dog barks unnecessarily, confusing him momentarily and thus stopping the barking.

They will not feel any pain but they will stop barking because they will be curious as to what this new smell is and where it came from. With time, the dog will understand that it’s the barking that triggers the spray, and will reduce the frecuency of the barking to avoid the spray. The barking is detected by a mic that’s built into the collar, which then releases the spray of citronella to stop the barking.

Ultrasonic Collar

The ultrasonic collar is the other popular collar of choice by dog owners. This is a type of collar that is also completely harmless to your dog so there is no need to worry about that. It stops barking via a high pitch that calls the dog’s attention. The pitch is so high that humans can’t hear it, so don’t think that the collar is broken just because you can’t hear it.

The ultrasound collar lets you adjust its sound settings, so that you can change them if the default ones aren’t working on your dog. For instance, your dog might respond better to a constant non-interrupted sound than to a series of individual sounds.

Lastly, anti bark collars aren’t meant to eliminate your dog’s natural barking, just reduce it in situations where it’s very inconvenient; in fact, with time, your dog will not need to wear the collar anymore.
